The Chimborazo volcano, a colossus, stands as an eternal guardian above the city. It is recognised as the highest mountain on the planet (measured from the centre of the Earth). The European-style facades, portals, skirting boards, cornices and balconies will take you back in time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For lovers of authentic flavours, <strong>the Mariano Borja, San Francisco and de la Merced markets<\/strong> are well worth a visit. Here you can sample the famous <em>empanadas<\/em>, <em>morocho<\/em>, sweet and savoury juices and fruit ice creams made with Chimborazo ice cream! Whether you&#8217;re attracted by typical or gourmet cuisine, the true essence of Riobamba can be discovered through its aromas and textures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:17px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to festivities, Riobamba is home to a multitude of traditional celebrations that bear witness to its historical syncretism. One of these is the &#8220;Pase del Ni\u00f1o de Riobamba&#8221;, which takes place every year between December and February in the streets of the city.
