Nicknamed “Paradise Valley”, Valparaiso is a legendary port city in Chile<\/mark><\/strong><\/a>, less than two hours’ drive north-west of Santiago. Its captivating charm, which has inspired seafarers since the 19th century, lies in its storied port history, as it was an obligatory maritime stopover on the west coast of the Americas before the construction of the Panama Canal. The colourful houses that adorn its streets are living testimony to this history, where residents dressed their homes in bright colours to protect them from the sea air.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Valparaiso is divided into two distinct areas: a flat zone and a hilly zone made up of hills known as cerros. The cerros are Cerro Concepcion<\/em>, Cerro Miraflores<\/em> and Cerro Alegre<\/em>.
