{"id":233605,"date":"2025-03-05T10:10:00","date_gmt":"2025-03-05T08:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/visit-latin-america.com\/?p=233605"},"modified":"2025-03-04T01:22:15","modified_gmt":"2025-03-03T23:22:15","slug":"maya-train-an-extended-route-linking-mexico-belize-and-guatemala","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/visit-latin-america.com\/en\/maya-train-an-extended-route-linking-mexico-belize-and-guatemala\/","title":{"rendered":"Maya Train: an extended route linking Mexico, Belize and Guatemala"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.trenmaya.gob.mx\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Maya Train<\/a> will offer one of the most comprehensive archaeological tours in Latin America. <a href=\"https:\/\/visit-latin-america.com\/en\/p\/mexico\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">Mexico<\/mark><\/a>&#8216;s most important rail network is to extend its route, passing through <a href=\"https:\/\/visit-latin-america.com\/en\/p\/belize\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">Belize<\/mark><\/a> and reaching <a href=\"https:\/\/visit-latin-america.com\/en\/p\/guatemala\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">Guatemala<\/mark><\/a>. It currently covers around 1,500 km along its <strong>34 stations<\/strong> and offers <strong>three itineraries<\/strong>: archaeology, nature reserves and living culture, each designed to offer unique experiences that highlight the region&#8217;s rich history, biodiversity and traditions. It also has three train models:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u25cf <strong>P&#8217;atal<\/strong>: its name means <em>to stay<\/em>, a train designed to travel long distances, with reclining seats and cabins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u25cf <strong>Janal<\/strong>: a place for gourmets, it has the particularity of combining the comfort of a restaurant with the excitement of a journey. Among these sites is <strong>Dzibanch\u00e9<\/strong>, an important ceremonial and political centre in the Maya region with a history dating back more than 2,300 years, inhabited mainly by the Kaan dynasty. This ancient city is known for its stepped pyramids, stone monuments and multi-storey palaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The expansion <strong>will benefit Belize and Guatemala <\/strong>by creating jobs, boosting foreign trade and improving mobility, while consolidating a cultural and archaeological corridor that will include destinations such as <strong>Tikal<\/strong>.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the moment, the extension is only at the planning and construction stage, but it is known that the train will pass through Belize in order to avoid environmental damage in <strong>the El Pet\u00e9n jungle<\/strong>.
