{"id":234040,"date":"2025-05-09T19:11:04","date_gmt":"2025-05-09T17:11:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/visit-latin-america.com\/lima-inaugurates-its-new-international-terminal\/"},"modified":"2025-05-09T19:11:39","modified_gmt":"2025-05-09T17:11:39","slug":"lima-inaugurates-its-new-international-terminal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/visit-latin-america.com\/en\/lima-inaugurates-its-new-international-terminal\/","title":{"rendered":"Lima inaugurates its new international terminal"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On <strong>1\u1d49\u02b3 June 2025<\/strong>, the new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lima-airport.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">Jorge Ch\u00e1vez International Airport<\/mark><\/a> in Lima, <a href=\"https:\/\/visit-latin-america.com\/en\/p\/peru\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Peru<\/a>, will welcome its first passengers after 5 years of construction work. This modern complex aims to make the Peruvian capital the crossroads between South America, Asia and Europe. <\/p>\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A hub three times larger<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>Located in the province of Callao, some ten kilometres from the centre of the Peruvian capital, the new 165,000 square metre terminal, whose design pays homage to <a href=\"https:\/\/visit-latin-america.com\/en\/the-nazca-lines-a-peruvian-enigma\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the hummingbird geoglyph on the Nazca lines<\/a>, almost <strong>triples the surface area of the existing airport<\/strong>. Its <strong>annual capacity will increase from twenty-three to forty million passengers<\/strong> thanks to a four-storey passenger building, <strong>a second runway<\/strong> and <strong>an ultra-modern control tower<\/strong>. The ambition is clear: to put Lima on a par with <a href=\"https:\/\/visit-latin-america.com\/en\/bogotas-el-dorado-voted-best-airport-in-south-america\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">Bogot\u00e1-El Dorado<\/mark><\/a> or S\u00e3o Paulo-Guarulhos.  <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:59px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A redesigned passenger path<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>Inside, <strong>39 check-in islands<\/strong>, complemented by <strong>90 self-service kiosks<\/strong> (120 by the end of 2025), will enable passengers to drop off their baggage or pay for excess baggage without going through the counter. Security checks will be equipped with the latest generation of <strong>3D scanners<\/strong>: no need to take out your computer or liquids, and queues will move three to four times faster. After biometric immigration, served by nineteen e-gates, passengers have access to <strong>fifty-six boarding gates<\/strong>, VIP lounges and a redesigned duty-free area.  <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:59px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Gastronomy, culture and sustainability<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>The \u2018airport city\u2019 concept goes beyond mere retail space. Seventy-five spaces bring together banks, shops, bars and restaurants where visitors can sample a glimpse of the Lime\u00f1a gastronomic scene with the help of chefs <strong>Mitsuharu Tsumura<\/strong>, of the famous Maido restaurant; <strong>Jaime Pesaque<\/strong>, chef of the Mayta restaurant, ranked among the <a href=\"https:\/\/visit-latin-america.com\/en\/the-worlds-50-best-restaurants-2024-latin-america-takes-centre-stage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">50 best restaurants in the world<\/a>; and <strong>Jos\u00e9 del Castillo<\/strong>, of the Isolina restaurant. In partnership with the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/mali.pe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">Museo de Arte de Lima<\/mark><\/a><\/strong>, emblematic works of art line the halls, immersing visitors in Peruvian culture from the moment they step off the plane. As for the environment, the infrastructure is aiming for LEED Silver certification, with photovoltaic panels on the roofs of the car parks, a grey water recovery system and a future direct connection to metro line 2.   <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:59px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A transition planned to the millimetre<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>To ensure a smooth start, a \u2018white march\u2019 will begin on 15 May. For a fortnight, traffic will be voluntarily reduced in order to test each procedure under real conditions. On the night of 31 May to 1\u1d49\u02b3 June, the old facilities will close for twelve hours. As well as increasing capacity, the project embodies a new way of looking at the airport: a place where operational efficiency is combined with the enhancement of local culture and concrete environmental commitments.
