But limiting the trip to football alone would mean missing a large part of what Mexico City has to offer. In this series of articles, we explore the places to discover between matches\u2014destinations where the journey continues long after the final whistle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Around the <strong>Azteca Stadium<\/strong>, officially renamed <strong>Mexico City Stadium<\/strong> during the tournament, the city continues to move at its own pace: traditional markets, historic neighborhoods, lively terraces open late into the night, canals, museums, and urban itineraries create an experience that goes far beyond the sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this series of articles, we explore the places to discover between matches\u2014destinations where the journey continues long after the final whistle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>From the Azteca to the Streets of Coyoac\u00e1n<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Many visitors will spend match days in the southern part of the city, making <strong>Coyoac\u00e1n<\/strong> a natural stop after a visit to the stadium. It was here that the artist was born, lived most of her life, and died in 1954. Inside, the colorful rooms and gardens reveal her personal belongings, hand-painted corsets, <em>Tehuana <\/em>dresses, and the easel she used from her wheelchair.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A few streets away, the <strong>Mercado de Coyoac\u00e1n<\/strong> is one of the best places to have lunch after strolling through the neighborhood. Filled with tostadas topped with tinga, seafood, or mushrooms, as well as handicraft stalls and shared tables, the market retains a distinctly local atmosphere. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:60px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>From the Z\u00f3calo to the Remains of Tenochtitl\u00e1n<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The historic center brings together some of Mexico City\u2019s most emblematic landmarks within just a few blocks. Between volcanic stone buildings and fa\u00e7ades inherited from the <em>Porfiriato<\/em>, visitors encounter caf\u00e9s set in former mansions, vendors selling <em>mazap\u00e1n<\/em>, musicians playing boleros, and historic bakeries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The route often leads to the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/palacio.inba.gob.mx\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">Palace of Fine Arts<\/mark><\/a><\/strong>, whose ceramic-covered dome still dominates downtown, or to the <strong>Torre Latinoamericana<\/strong>, which offers sweeping views over the vast metropolis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To extend the walk, it is possible to follow Paseo de la Reforma to the Angel of Independence, the city\u2019s traditional gathering place for major sporting celebrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:60px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Lucha Libre Night Between Matches<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Attending a lucha libre show remains one of the most popular experiences after the matches. <strong>Arena M\u00e9xico<\/strong>, known as the \u201ccathedral of lucha libre,\u201d is located in the <strong>Roma district<\/strong>, close to the historic center and several areas frequented by visitors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shows generally take place on Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday evenings, making them easy to include in a World Cup itinerary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even without knowing the rules, it is difficult to remain indifferent to the atmosphere: masked wrestlers, acrobatic moves, and the crowd\u2019s reactions quickly turn the evening into a true popular spectacle. To this day, colorful <em>trajineras <\/em>continue to navigate these waters, which have become one of Mexico City\u2019s most recognizable symbols. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The atmosphere changes depending on the time of day and the departure point. In the morning, the canals are relatively peaceful, lined with trees, <em>chinampas<\/em>, and small floating kitchens serving <em>quesadillas<\/em>, coffee, and grilled corn. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the day progresses, the atmosphere becomes much livelier, with mariachis moving from boat to boat, families celebrating birthdays, and groups sharing tequila while music echoes in every direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:60px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Teotihuac\u00e1n, An Essential Excursion from the Capital<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For travelers with several days between matches, <strong>Teotihuac\u00e1n <\/strong>remains one of the most recommended excursions from Mexico City.
