The former is gaining new connections from Spain and the United States, while the latter is adding direct access from Washington and Ottawa for the North American high season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The month also confirms several broader movements: Spain is adding an option to El Salvador, GOL is taking its first steps in long-haul operations from Rio de Janeiro, and LATAM is once again linking South Africa with Brazil. Both services will operate year-round, with <strong>four weekly frequencies<\/strong> at launch, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, aboard Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With Washington, Cartagena gains new direct access to the northeastern United States and to United\u2019s connections from Dulles. With Houston, the city joins one of the airline\u2019s major hubs for Latin America. The announcement should still be treated as a prospect, as no launch date, frequency or schedule has yet been published. United Airlines plans to operate <strong>daily service<\/strong> between <strong>December 17, 2026 and January 4, 2027<\/strong>, a period focused on the year-end high season. The route will be operated with Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This service complements United\u2019s already significant presence in <strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\"><a href=\"https:\/\/visit-latin-america.com\/en\/guanacaste-an-escape-to-the-heart-of-costa-rican-biodiversity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Guanacaste<\/a><\/mark><\/strong>. The airline connects the Costa Rican airport with Houston and several seasonal hubs in the United States. Washington Dulles adds direct access from the U.S. federal capital, but also from Virginia, Maryland and part of the northeastern United States.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Washington Dulles (IAD) \u2013 Guanacaste\/Liberia (LIR) <\/strong>\u2013 daily, from December 17, 2026 to January 4, 2027:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Flight UA 1547: <strong>IAD <\/strong>08:51 \u2013 <strong>LIR <\/strong>12:50<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Flight UA 1548: <strong>LIR <\/strong>14:00 \u2013 <strong>IAD <\/strong>19:35<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Canada brings a second announcement for Guanacaste. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westjet.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">WestJet <\/a><\/strong>will launch <strong>a new direct route between Ottawa and Guanacaste\/Liberia from December 20, 2026<\/strong>. The service will operate <strong>every Sunday until April 4, 2027<\/strong>, with a 174-seat Boeing 737 MAX 8. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The announcement is part of WestJet\u2019s winter strategy toward sun destinations. Operations began on July 1, 2026, with <strong>three weekly frequencies<\/strong> on Boeing 787-9 aircraft. The route <strong>directly connects South Africa with Brazil<\/strong> and strengthens S\u00e3o Paulo\u2019s position as a connecting hub for South America.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This route is particularly relevant within LATAM\u2019s intercontinental network.
