Inti Raymi – Cusco, Peru (June 24)

Also known as the Festival of the Sun, this ancestral celebration takes place once a year in Cusco. Over 1,000 actors and more than 60,000 spectators, both locals and tourists, participate in a theatrical reenactment of Inca rituals at three key sites: the Corikancha Temple, where the Sun is greeted; the Plaza de Armas, where the Coca Leaf Ritual and the Meeting of the Ages are held; and the Sacsayhuamán esplanade, where the main ceremonies, offerings, and traditional dances take place. The celebration preserves the spiritual, political, and symbolic essence of the ancient Inca empire.
