Bogotá’s El Dorado International Airport has once again distinguished itself on the world stage, being recognised as the best airport in South America in 2024 by the prestigious Skytrax survey. This distinction is particularly noteworthy given that El Dorado is also the largest airport in South America in terms of freight and passengers, having handled more than 39 million passengers in 2023, and is the second largest in Latin America, just behind Mexico City Airport.

The quality of El Dorado’s infrastructure and services, as well as its operational efficiency, have been highlighted by passengers, who have appreciated the efficiency of the staff, the cleanliness and the diversity of the services available. These factors have propelled this air hub to the top of regional and international preferences.

Skytrax, which audits 550 airports to produce its annual rankings, has recognised not only El Dorado but also other leading airports around the world. In South America, after El Dorado, the airports of Quito and Guayaquil, both in Ecuador, complete the podium, occupying second and third place respectively.

El Dorado’s success reflects Colombia’s commitment to continually improving its airport infrastructure and offering a first-class travel experience. This not only enhances the country’s image on the international stage, but also strengthens the tourism industry and the local economy, making Bogotá a key connection point in Latin America.

El Dorado International Airport is the first air terminal in the world to receive Leed Zero Energy certification, awarded by the US Sustainable Building Council, for its effectiveness in implementing sustainable practices. This recognition highlights the sound management and efficient operation of the airport’s buildings, which have achieved high standards of energy efficiency. This performance is achieved by offsetting energy consumption from conventional sources with the use of alternative energy sources over a 12-month period.

In addition, the airport has implemented sustainability initiatives such as recycling 100% of the rainwater from its roofs and reusing 80% of the waste generated in the terminal. These efforts are helping to make El Dorado a model for environmental responsibility in the airport sector.
