Chile modernises Chile.travel to structure international travel planning

Travelling through Chile often involves navigating a wide diversity of regions, distances and timeframes. For long-haul markets, this richness can also become a source of complexity when designing an itinerary. It is within this context that the country has undertaken a comprehensive update of Chile Travel, its official tourism information platform launched in 2016, conceived as a planning support tool and a means of structuring the country’s tourism offer for international markets.

This redesign responds both to changing travel planning habits and to growing expectations in terms of clarity, reliability and prioritisation of information, particularly for long-haul destinations.

A tool refocused on planning

The new version of Chile.travel incorporates interactive maps with geolocation, itinerary planners, route suggestions and an enhanced search engine with advanced filters. The objective is clear: to enable travellers — and indirectly tourism professionals — to organise a trip based on concrete criteria such as duration, areas of interest or the regions included in the journey.

These features are complemented by a frequently asked questions section, as well as updated official content on safety and travel recommendations. This is a particularly sensitive aspect for distant markets, where institutional information plays a key role in the early decision-making phase.

A platform designed for international markets

Chile.travel occupies a central role in the country’s tourism promotion strategy, particularly in Europe. The redesign has therefore been accompanied by the addition of a French-language version, complementing the existing Spanish, English, Portuguese and German versions. This sends a clear signal to a market that places strong value on advance planning and well-structured itineraries.

Europe remains one of Chile’s main long-haul source markets. According to Undersecretary of Tourism Verónica Pardo, the recovery of European tourist flows is closely linked to the normalisation of air connectivity, a process expected to continue throughout the year.

At the same time, the tourism promotion strategy is focusing on a stronger presence at international trade fairs and on regional initiatives that encourage combined itineraries within South America. This approach aligns with the expectations of European travellers, who tend to pay close attention to route coherence and to the possibility of integrating several destinations within a single trip.

Beyond its informational role, this update reflects a broader ambition: to position Chile as a destination capable of articulating highly contrasting experiences within a coherent and readable framework. By facilitating a cross-cutting understanding of the territory and structuring access to information, Chile.travel establishes itself as a guidance tool for both travellers and industry stakeholders, at a time when clarity of the tourism offer has become a strategic issue in its own right.
