Focus on air travel developments in Latin America – March 2026

The announcements made in March illustrate a gradual evolution of air connectivity in Latin America, marked by the launch of new routes, capacity adjustments, and a diversification of access points. Between routes departing from secondary cities, the strengthening of certain destinations, and new long-haul connections, these developments are reshaping how the region is accessed.


The United States strengthens its presence in Central America and the Caribbean

Breeze Airways has confirmed the launch of two new direct routes from Tampa. The connection to Punta Cana (Dominican Republic) will begin on July 2 with two weekly frequencies. Then, on October 3, the route to San José (Costa Rica) will be launched, also with two weekly frequencies, marking the first direct connection to Juan Santamaría International Airport in more than twenty years.

In Mexico, Aeroméxico will resume, in partnership with Delta Air Lines, the route between New York and Monterrey from June 11 to August 30, with five weekly frequencies.

At the same time, anticipating increased demand linked to the FIFA World Cup 2026, Volaris will connect Detroit to Guadalajara starting June 1, with three weekly frequencies.

Brazil strengthens its international reach

From its Rio de Janeiro hub, GOL will launch direct flights to New York starting July 9 with three weekly frequencies, while Lisbon and Paris will be added from September, consolidating its long-haul network. The airline will also introduce its INSIGNIA by GOL Business class, featuring full-flat seats, a signature dining offer, and lounge access, along with a new Magno status in its Smiles program, offering exclusive benefits to frequent travelers.

Meanwhile, LATAM Airlines already operates a new route between Amsterdam and São Paulo and will also operate from Brussels starting June 1. From July 1, Cape Town will be added, extending the network to Africa.

Mexico diversifies its entry points

Beyond Mexico City and Cancún, new routes are expanding international access to secondary destinations in the country. Starting June 2, Monterrey will add a connection with Madrid, operated three times per week. This operation is based on an agreement between Iberia and Viva, allowing connections to more than 30 domestic cities through a single booking, facilitating the creation of more flexible itineraries across the country.

At the same time, the Mexican Caribbean strengthens its accessibility from Canada with the launch of a direct route between Montreal and Cozumel, operated by Vacances WestJet Québec.

Europe strengthens its connections with the region

As part of the winter season, British Airways will increase its frequencies between London and Punta Cana, with four weekly flights departing from Gatwick.

London (LGW) – Punta Cana (PUJ) – Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays:
  • Flight BA 2205: LGW 13:10 – PUJ 18:35
  • Flight BA 2204: PUJ 20:20 – LGW 08:00 (+1)

Between October and March 2027, the LondonSan José (Costa Rica) route will increase from three to five weekly frequencies and will be transferred to Heathrow, improving connections with the rest of Europe.

London (LHR) – San José (SJO) – Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays:

For its part, LEVEL will launch a new route between Barcelona and Lima in June, strengthening direct connections between Europe and the South American Pacific coast.
