The year 2024 promises to be a pivotal period for aviation in Latin America, marked by significant innovations, challenges and opportunities. Here is an overview of the main developments expected in the sector.

Aeromexico: expansion and modernisation

Aeromexico, one of Mexico’s leading airlines, plans to significantly expand its network in 2024, with the addition of 15 new routes to the United States in collaboration with Delta Air Lines. In addition, the airline is preparing to welcome 25 new Boeing 737 MAX and five Boeing 787 Dreamliners, bringing its fleet to more than 180 aircraft.

Aerolíneas Argentinas at a crossroads

Aerolíneas Argentinas – Argentina’s national airline – after posting a profit for the first time since its acquisition by the state in 2008, is facing changes in management and the possibility of privatisation. This period of uncertainty coincides with the arrival of new Embraer E2 aircraft scheduled for 2024.

Abra Holding Group: towards low-cost market dominance

The Abra Group, including Avianca and GOL Linhas Aéreas, is positioning itself to become the leading low-cost airline in Latin America. 2024 will see major changes in the Group’s management, with Adrian Neuhauser (ex: CEO of Avianca) taking the helm following the departure of Constantino de Oliveira Junior. The group is also considering strategic partnerships, notably with Aerolíneas Argentinas and potentially with Sky Airline of Chile.

The continuing rise of low-cost airlines

The growth of low-cost and ultra-low-cost models continues to transform the Latin American aviation landscape. Companies such as JetSMART, Volaris and Viva Aerobus continue to expand, despite the challenges posed by government regulations and high costs.

The year 2024 promises to be a period of transformation and growth for aviation in Latin America. Every airline and every country in the region seems ready to navigate an ever-changing landscape, marked by economic challenges and development opportunities.
