Buenos Aires: A Model of Excellence in Business Tourism in Latin America

Share

Buenos Aires continues to strengthen its reputation as a leader in business tourism. In 2024, the fascinating Argentine capital topped the ICCA (International Congress and Convention Association) ranking for the Americas for the 14th consecutive year, hosting 91 international events. This figure not only surpassed cities like Montreal but also placed Buenos Aires first in Latin America and among the top 20 cities worldwide, alongside European capitals such as Vienna and Paris.

This result is all the more significant given the ICCA’s criteria for counting an event: it must be organized by an international association, take place periodically, have at least 50 participants, and rotate between at least three different countries. It is therefore not just a question of quantity, but of quality, consistency, and impact.

A Triumph Behind the Scenes

This recognition is the result of a year of hard work, with a strong presence at major international trade shows around the world,” said Karina Perticone, Executive Director of Visit Buenos Aires.

This leadership also relies on effective synergy between public and private sectors, along with ongoing efforts to modernize the city’s hospitality infrastructure. Whether for international trade fairs, scientific congresses, or institutional events, the capital offers venues that live up to its ambitions.

Venues That Match the Ambition

La Rural, located in the Palermo neighborhood, is one of the pillars of the city’s event offering. This iconic venue, historically linked to agriculture, has reinvented itself to host major international events in health, technology, and design.

In La Boca, the Usina del Arte offers a distinctive alternative: this heritage site, converted into a cultural center, is now a popular location for innovative forums and interdisciplinary gatherings.

Finally, the Teatro Colón, a jewel of architecture and a symbol of Argentine culture, provides a prestigious setting for high-profile protocol or artistic events. Its worldwide reputation makes it a valuable asset for organizers seeking refinement.

Who Chooses Buenos Aires?

According to the Buenos Aires Tourism Observatory, MICE visitors to the city are primarily from the United States (22%). These travelers are known for higher daily spending, prefer 4- or 5-star hotels, and stay an average of five nights. They also take advantage of their stay to explore the city’s gastronomy, cultural offerings, and vibrant nightlife.

Promising Prospects

The future of meetings tourism in Buenos Aires looks even more promising. The city is paving the way in Latin America by combining service excellence, quality infrastructure, and collaborative governance. The next challenge will be to strengthen regional synergies, promote Latin America as a congress destination, and secure a competitive position on the global stage.

When a city shines, the whole region benefits. And Buenos Aires—with its dynamism, diversity, and global hosting capacity—continues to affirm its status as the showcase of Latin American business tourism.
