The end of 2025 confirms a clear trend: Latin America is expanding its network of international flights with an intensity not seen since the pandemic. While traditional airlines consolidate their presence in major regional hubs, new carriers are opening routes that diversify air access beyond national capitals.
Mexico and Argentina break records with Iberia
The Spanish airline announced that starting June 2, 2026, it will operate the Madrid–Monterrey route with three weekly flights on Airbus A330-200 aircraft, adding more than 40,000 extra seats during the European summer season. This makes Mexico the market with the highest number of seats to Europe within Iberia’s network.
Schedule between Madrid (MAD) and Monterrey (MTY) – Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays:
- Flight IB 305: MAD 13:10 – MTY 17:05
- Flight IB 306: MTY 18:35 – MAD 13:05 (+1)
As part of its “Flight Plan 2030” strategy and to celebrate the 80th anniversary of its route between Europe and Argentina, Iberia will make a historic increase in operations: up to 23 weekly flights between Buenos Aires and Madrid in June, July, and August 2026 — the first time in the company’s history for a Latin American destination.
Guatemala opens to the north with Air Canada
The new route between Guatemala City and Montreal, inaugurated in October, is part of the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism’s strategy to expand the country’s air connectivity. With three weekly flights until April 2026, Air Canada will not only facilitate the arrival of Canadian travelers but also of European and Asian passengers transiting through Montreal.
Schedule between Montreal (YUL) and Guatemala City (GUA) – Monday, Thursday and Saturday:
- Flight AC 1368: YUL 17:10 – GUA 21:05
- Flight AC 1369: GUA 10:50 – YUL 16:50
World2Fly connects Madrid to Rosario (Argentina)
Argentina will also benefit from a new direct link to Europe thanks to authorization granted to the Spanish airline World2Fly to operate the Madrid–Rosario route with three weekly flights. It will be the first direct connection between the city of Rosario, in the province of Santa Fe, and the European continent — a milestone in Argentina’s open-skies policy. The airline has not yet confirmed schedules, but flights are expected to begin once Rosario Airport is fully operational.
The Caribbean gains visibility
Frontier Airlines will launch a direct flight between Philadelphia and Santiago de los Caballeros (Dominican Republic) on December 18, with two weekly frequencies. This new connection strengthens the tourism boom in the Cibao region, which has seen its international connectivity grow over the past two years, asserting its role as a cultural complement to traditional beach destinations.
Schedule between Philadelphia (PHL) and Santiago de los Caballeros (STI) – Thursday and Sunday:
- Flight F9 356: PHL 6:10 – STI 10:42
- Flight F9 357: STI 11:57 – PHL 14:46
A new seasonal route between Moscow and Cuba

The first direct route between Moscow and Holguín (Cuba) was inaugurated in 2017, before being suspended indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Five years later, Russian airline Nordwind Airlines announces the resumption of this direct route, operated by Boeing 777-200, with the first flight scheduled for October 29 and a seasonal program running until March 2026. This new route adds to the Cuban destinations already served by the airline: Havana, Varadero, and Cayo Coco.
