Honduras: British travellers once again exempt from visa requirements

Share

Honduras lifted the consular visa requirement on 31 October, just a few days before the opening of World Travel Market in London. For British tourists, this means one less formality before departure, whether Honduras is their final destination or one stop on a wider trip through Central America.

The visa requirement had been introduced in 2024. Its removal, announced by the Honduran Institute of Tourism (IHT), brings travel conditions for British citizens closer to those already applicable to European Union nationals. French, Spanish and German citizens, among others, can already travel visa-free for tourist stays of up to 90 days. Passports must remain valid for at least six months after the date of entry into Honduras.

From Roatán to Copán, Honduras presents its itineraries in London

At World Travel Market, which ends today, 5 November, the IHT has been meeting with British and European tour operators alongside DMCs from OPTURH, the association of Honduran operators. Destinations presented include the Bay Islands, where diving is one of the main attractions, and the Maya site of Copán in the west of the country. Two stops that illustrate the possibilities of a trip combining the Caribbean coast with inland Honduras.

Visitor numbers are rising, including for overnight stays

Honduras welcomed 1.8 million visitors in the first half of 2026, 18.5% more than between January and June 2025, according to preliminary figures from the IHT. Cruises account for a large share of this growth. With 1.21 million passengers, up 19.9%, they represent around two out of every three visitors.

Overnight stays are also increasing. 462,795 international tourists spent at least one night in the country during the first six months of the year, 9.8% more than in the same period in 2025. It is in this segment, covering stays in the country and multi-stop itineraries, that the removal of the visa requirement could make the greatest difference for the British market.
