As global aviation continues to expand, Qatar Airways has taken another step forward by announcing the opening of a route between Doha’s Hamad International Airport and Bogotá’s El Dorado International Airport. This flight, which will then continue to Caracas, marks a turning point in connectivity between the Middle East and Latin America. Scheduled for June 2025, it will consolidate Bogotá as the region’s leading air hub, and open up new prospects for tourism and trade.
A strategic announcement for Colombia and Venezuela
The official Qatar Airways announcement was made in January 2025, following approval of the requested slots at the IATA world conference in November 2024. Colombia thus becomes the fourth South American country served by the airline, after Brazil, Argentina and Peru.
This arrival marks a turning point for the country, which now welcomes 24 foreign airlines, reinforcing its role as a gateway to Latin America. Thanks to the reputation of Qatar Airways and the quality of its services, this route should attract a clientele seeking high-end experiences from the Middle East and Asia, as well as facilitating trade between the two continents.
“The arrival of Qatar Airways brings us closer to the Middle East, a region with strong purchasing power, while opening up business opportunities, particularly thanks to the cargo capacity of this route,” said ProColombia, the national tourism and foreign trade promotion agency.
A stronger connection between Asia and South America
The Doha-Bogotá flight will be operated twice weekly, on Wednesdays and Sundays, with a Boeing 777-300ER, offering 42 seats in Business class and 234 in Economy class. After its stopover in Bogotá, the aircraft will continue on to Caracas, marking the return of a direct service between the Middle East and Venezuela.
According to Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, CEO of Qatar Airways Group: ” The inauguration of flights to Bogota and Caracas is a transformational moment for Qatar Airways and for travellers to South America. As the first airline to offer non-stop service from the Middle East to Colombia, and the only Middle Eastern airline to fly to Venezuela, we are creating new opportunities to connect people, cultures and commerce. Passengers will appreciate the world-class hospitality we offer on Qatar Airways as we continue to reach new heights in long-haul travel with our second longest flight to the Americas. These itineraries symbolize our commitment to offering unparalleled travel experiences and redefining global connectivity through our award-winning service.”

Bogotá confirms its leadership
The arrival of Qatar Airways is in line with the airport’s dynamic growth towards rapidly expanding destinations, reinforcing El Dorado‘s role as a strategic hub in Latin America. Already the most connected airport in the region and number one in terms of cargo volume, Bogotá’s international network has reached a new milestone. This expansion is part of a wider trend to increase long-haul flights, while diversifying the offer of Gulf airlines present on the Latin American market.
Indeed, Qatar Airways becomes the second Middle Eastern airline to serve Colombia, after Emirates, which inaugurated service to Bogotá in June 2024 via Miami..
Qatar Airways, an expanding airline
