Three new air routes to bring Europe closer to Latin America

Share

As demand for long-haul flights picks up, three airlines are announcing new or relaunched direct flights between Europe and Latin America: Iberojet will link Madrid to Querétaro in Mexico, Condor will return to Panama from Germany and Cubana de Aviación will once again link Frankfurt and Cuba. Here’s an overview.

Madrid Querétaro (Iberojet)

The Spanish airline Iberojet will be opening a Madrid (MAD) – Querétaro Intercontinental (QRO) route, operated by Airbus A350, which will be the first direct link between Spain and the Mexican Bajío. Supported by tour operators from the Ávoris group, the aim is to showcase the region’s dynamic tourism and heritage, in particular the UNESCO-listed historic centre of Santiago de Querétaro, the surrounding vineyards and Pueblos Mágicos (Bernal, Jalpan de Serra, Tequisquiapan…)… For the moment, no date has been announced for the entry into service of the link.

Mario Domínguez, Iberojet’s Commercial Director, said: ‘This new route strengthens our commitment to interconnecting the Iberian Peninsula with Mexico, adding this destination to the flights linking Madrid, Barcelona and Lisbon with Cancun and reinforcing the links between the two countries and their brother peoples’.

Francfort Panama-City (Condor)

After a nine-year absence, Condor returns to Panama on 11 June 2025. This direct route operated by A330-900 Neo will reinforce the strategy of the ‘Master Plan for Sustainable Tourism 2020-2026’ and completes the ‘Panama Stopover’ programme – allowing passengers to stay in Panama for several days at no additional cost to the airline – which attracted more than 160,000 passengers in 2024.

Our plans with Condor are to strengthen the German market, which is important for Panama because these visitors have the longest stay per night, varying between 15 and 16 days,’ says Moisés Véliz, Director of Strategic Alliances and Travel Trade at PROMTUR.

Flight schedule between Frankfurt (FRA) and Panama City (PTY)

Francfort – Holguín / La Havane (Cubana de Aviación)

Twenty years after abandoning it, Cubana de Aviación will be relaunching its service to Germany in November 2025: two weekly rotations (Wednesday and Saturday) by Airbus A330-200 (287 seats), alternating between Holguín and Havana. The Cuban Ministry of Transport has welcomed this announcement, as this route will restore connectivity with Europe following the withdrawal of Condor, which will take effect from 2 May 2025.

By improving accessibility and diversifying itineraries, these three flights offer travel professionals new opportunities to build original tours while meeting the growing demand for Latin America.
