Travellers’ Choice Awards: The destinations and experiences that marked 2025

Share

From the idyllic shores of Mexico and Brazil to the Andean peaks of Cusco, Latin America continues to captivate travelers from around the world. Once again this year, it has been recognized in Tripadvisor’s Travelers’ Choice – Best of the Best Awards, an accolade given to places that have impressed, amazed, and charmed millions of visitors.

This international ranking is based exclusively on the reviews, ratings, and comments posted by millions of travelers. The selection is based on the quality, quantity, and consistency of reviews in several categories (accommodations, restaurants, destinations, and activities). There are two levels of awards: the Travellers’ Choice label, which honors the top 10% of establishments, and the prestigious Best of the Best distinction, reserved for the top 1% worldwide. Only establishments that have been in operation for at least one year and meet strict criteria for reputation, safety, and ethics are eligible.

Culture and relaxation: top destinations

Among the 25 best destinations of the year, Cusco in Peru ranks 13th. The ancient capital of Tahuantinsuyo continues to attract travelers with its colonial architecture, Andean energy, and proximity to the Machu Picchu sanctuary. But beyond its role as the gateway to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, Cusco stands out as a complete destination, where you can explore traditional markets, sample one of the country’s most varied cuisines, and visit unique historical sites. Its combination of culture and adventure makes it one of travelers’ favorite destinations.

A little further down the list, in 24th place, Cancún confirms its status as an iconic beach destination. Its emerald waters, lively nightlife, and high-end hotel infrastructure make it a popular spot for sun seekers, comfort lovers, and those looking to relax. But its appeal goes beyond its Caribbean landscapes: more and more travelers are also praising its proximity to Mayan archaeological sites, secret cenotes, and unique cultural experiences. This winning combination of relaxation, history, and entertainment continues to make the Riviera Maya a must-see tourist destination.

Breeze, sea… and unforgettable sand

While Mexico and Brazil appear several times on the list, Cuba takes the top spot among Latin American destinations, with Varadero ranking sixth worldwide. This iconic beach, with its pristine white sand and turquoise waters, remains a Caribbean must-see. Beyond its natural beauty, travelers praise the warm welcome of its inhabitants and its relaxed atmosphere.

Just behind in the rankings is Bávaro Beach in the Dominican Republic, famous for its crystal-clear waters and combination of all-inclusive hotels and quieter areas.

Mexico dominates the category with three beaches among the favorites: Playa Delfines in Cancún, known for its wide open spaces and views; Playa Norte on the island of Isla Mujeres, ideal for families; and the very photogenic Balandra Beach in Baja California Sur, with its rock formations and shallow waters.

Brazil also shines with two sites: the famous Ipanema in Rio de Janeiro, which retains its urban and cultural aura, and Muro Alto in the state of Pernambuco, a natural swimming pool paradise.

Experiences that leave their mark

Latin America also stands out for its experiences, which are among the highest rated of the year. Mexico takes center stage with a morning visit to Chichén Itzá, including crowd-free access, a swim in a cenote, and a tasting of artisanal tequila. In Colombia, the excursion to Guatapé and Piedra del Peñol, with a boat ride and traditional lunch, is one of the favorites.

In Peru, two adventures stand out: the short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, for an intense but brief hike; and the excursion to the Huacachina oasis, combining marine wildlife viewing in the Paracas Reserve and sandboarding on the highest dunes in South America.

More than a ranking, a lasting impression

Beyond the numbers and rankings, this selection reveals above all the lasting impression that destinations leave on the hearts of those who visit them. Because these distinctions are not dictated by experts, but by millions of voices: those of travelers who write, share, and relive their adventures. Through every beach, every journey, every experience, a bond is created, an emotion is shared, a memory remains. This is where Latin America continues to lead the way.
