The state of Guanajuato, located in central Mexico in the region known as El Bajío, which is home to the colonial gems of San Miguel de Allende and the city of Guanajuato among others, began its tourism revival with the launch of his new campaign on 28th of September: “Guanajuato, Live Great stories”.

“This event marks the reactivation of tourism in the 46 municipalities of Guanajuato, with more than 150 products and experiences for our visitors”, according to Governor Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo. In addition, he said that during these pandemic months, his government has not stood idly by, but has worked hand in hand with the tourism sector to move forward. The launch of this campaign is one more step, so that as soon as the sanitary conditions allow it, Guanajuato can recover its tourist influence at national and global level.

The region developed its own “Guanajuato Sano Distinction” safety and hygiene certification last June, and obtained the Safe Travels label developed by the World Travel & Tourism Concil. The governor invited hoteliers, restaurateurs, service providers, tour operators, guides and all those in the industry to work towards the goal of regaining the grandeur of the tourism industry.

Guanajuato is famous for its unique archaeological sites and its role in Mexican independence. The town of San Miguel de Allende is also known as a paradise for creative travelers, like the American writer Jack Kerouac, who drew on the region for his books. The region is appreciated for its small luxury hotels and local craftsmanship, but has also diversified to attract professional tourism, becoming in recent years one of the five most important MICE destinations in the country.
