This new update on air transport news in Latin America brings together the main announcements of recent weeks, with an expanded format: international routes to the region, as well as regional services that are changing travel within the continent.
Europe remains very present this month, with Air Europa in Düsseldorf and LEVEL in Lima. Canada is adding a new direct connection to São Paulo, while Arajet and Copa are strengthening two important regional routes: Punta Cana-Montevideo and Panama-Porto Alegre.
Air Europa adds Düsseldorf to its network to Madrid
Air Europa will open a new route between Düsseldorf and Madrid-Barajas from 30 November 2026. The airline will operate two daily flights between the German city and its Spanish hub, with a schedule designed to feed its international network.
The announcement first concerns the German market, where Air Europa already serves Frankfurt and Munich. But it also fits into Madrid’s connection strategy to its 20 direct destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Düsseldorf (DUS) ↔ Madrid (MAD), daily, from 30 November 2026:

Flights will be operated with Boeing 737-800 aircraft. With this new route, Air Europa continues a year of expansion marked by the launch of Geneva and Johannesburg, ahead of the announced launches to El Salvador and Barranquilla at the end of the year.
LEVEL adds a fourth frequency between Barcelona and Lima
LEVEL will strengthen its direct route between Barcelona and Lima from 15 March 2027. The IAG Group long-haul airline will add a weekly flight on Mondays, bringing the route to four frequencies per week: Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
This additional frequency will be available until the end of September 2027. It complements a route launched in June and already operated three times per week.

WestJet prepares a direct route between Calgary and São Paulo
WestJet will launch a new direct route between Calgary and São Paulo/Guarulhos from 15 December 2026. The flight will be operated three times per week with Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.
The airline presents this route as the only non-stop service between western Canada and South America. For São Paulo, it adds direct access from Alberta and strengthens Guarulhos’ role as a connecting hub to the rest of the continent. WestJet also highlights its agreement with LATAM Airlines, which should allow connections to several South American destinations.

This announcement is one of the most important long-haul developments of the month for Brazil. It adds a new North American market to São Paulo, outside the usual main gateways of Toronto, Montreal and the US hubs.
Arajet will connect Punta Cana with Montevideo
Arajet will open a new route between Punta Cana and Montevideo from 3 March 2027. The Dominican airline plans three weekly frequencies, on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, operated with Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.
This will be the first direct connection between the Dominican Republic and Uruguay. The route is based on Arajet’s development in Punta Cana and its connecting network to North America, Central America and the Caribbean.

Copa will strengthen its flights between Panama and Porto Alegre
Copa Airlines will increase its offer between Panama City/Tocumen and Porto Alegre from 30 December 2026, moving from seven to eleven weekly frequencies for the months of January and February 2027.
This reinforcement comes for the austral summer season, a period of strong demand to southern Brazil. It also improves connection possibilities via the Panama hub, particularly to the Caribbean, North America, Central America and other Latin American markets.
Panama City/Tocumen (PTY) ↔ Porto Alegre (POA), daily:

The route is part of Copa’s Brazilian network, which also includes São Paulo/Guarulhos, Rio de Janeiro/Galeão, Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Manaus, Florianópolis and Salvador de Bahia. The increase to Porto Alegre confirms the gradual recovery of international supply from Rio Grande do Sul.
This month of August shows a contrasting air transport update. Some announcements open new routes, such as Calgary-São Paulo or Punta Cana-Montevideo. Others add capacity on existing routes, such as Barcelona-Lima or Panama-Porto Alegre. Air Europa, for its part, is expanding European access to its Madrid hub. For itineraries to and within Latin America, these movements give a more complete picture of the network: new access points, reinforced frequencies, connections and schedule adjustments.
