Since 13th of October, Guatemala has joined the list of countries that have been awarded with the “Safe Travels”  stamp by the World Travel and Tourism Council (W.T.T.C.), which guarantees compliance with the hygiene and sanitary protocols approved by the World Health Organisation.

The Guatemalan National Institute of Tourism (INGUAT) will be responsible for awarding the label to companies in the country that comply with the protocols. Mynor Cordón, the General Director of INGUAT, said: “It is an honour to be the ambassadors of the W.T.T.C. “Safe Travels” label, supported by the World Tourism Organisation (W.T.O.) with which we seek to promote hygiene and health protocols in the tourism value chain”.

Gloria Guevara Manzo, President and Managing Director of the W.T.T.C. stated that “Guatemala is a destination of excellence, offering attractions such as Antigua, the emblematic archaeological area of Tikal, Quetzaltenango and Lake Atitlán (…) The time has come to join forces and stimulate the travel and tourism industry, which is an important generator of income and employment. Thanks to this seal, travelers should feel more confident visiting emblematic places with the peace of mind that it is a place that respects hygiene protocols”.

It should be noted that international air connectivity from Guatemala City’s La Aurora airport has resumed since 4 October, where some fifteen airlines operate, including Aeromexico, Air France, Iberia, Turkish Airlines United Airlines and Air Canada.
