Sernatur launches the “Turismo todo el año” campaign in the Magallanes region and in the Chilean Antarctic
With the aim of extending the season and boosting tourism during the autumn and winter seasons, the Chilean tourism promotion agency (Sernatur) of the Magallanes region is carrying out nine fam trips in the four provinces of the region as part of the “Turismo todo el año” (Tourism all year round) campaign.
During these fam trips, regional tour operators and the international press visit and discover not only the emerging destinations, among which Tierra del Fuego, Puerto Williams and Dientes de Navarino stand out, but also traditional attractions such as Torres del Paine, Puerto Natales and Punta Arenas, where the tourist offer is already available all year round.
The trips started on 13 February in Puerto Williams, in the Chilean province of Antarctica, with the help of regional tour operators from Punta Arenas and Puerto Natales.
Participants were able to discover the wide range of services offered by Navarino Island, with an emphasis on local gastronomy, the quality of accommodation facilities and adventure tourism experiences such as climbing Cerro Bandera, sailing the Beagle Channel and the Dientes de Navarino circuit, the most southerly trek in the world.
They also emphasised activities that combine culture, science and nature, such as visits to the Omora Ethnobotanical Park, the Martín Gusinde Anthropological Museum, the Cape Horn Research Centre and the visit to Villa Ukika, inhabited by the descendants of the Yagán people.
The visits to the island of Tierra del Fuego were another highlight of this promotion. They were able to discover the attractions offered by Porvenir and the Parque los Estromatolitos, and of course, the culture of the Selk’nam people, the ancestral inhabitants of Tierra del Fuego.
The trip allowed them to see the king penguin, the Karukinka Park and the work carried out by the WCS (Patagonian Species and Area Protection Organisation), as well as the adventure tourism activities in the Deseado, Blanco and Fagnano lakes,
“With the support of the regional government of Magallanes and Chilean Antarctica, we are currently carrying out press and familiarisation trips, which are one of the main promotional actions for the destination,” explains Stephano Cicarelli, regional director of SIA.
Sernature Magallanes also explained that recently, influencers, photographers and journalists have been travelling around the province of Magallanes, discovering the tourist offer of Punta Arenas and the experiences offered by the Pali Aike National Park and the southern sector of the province, where the Parque del Estrecho stands out.
“Alongside the trips, we are developing our national and international promotional campaign, whose objective is to promote, reactivate and reposition the Magallanes and Chilean Antarctic destination through the Patagonia Chile brand”, the authority states.
The trips through the Magallanes region and the Chilean Antarctic will end in April in the province of Última Esperanza, with activities in Puerto Natales, Torres del Paine and Sierra Baguales, a mountain range located at the southernmost point of the Andes, on the border between Chile and Argentina.
