The Dominican Ministry of Tourism presented its new international campaign dedicated to Cabarete, on the north coast of the Dominican Republic, in Miami Beach. Its name, “Cabarete Surf & Wind City”, sums up quite well what the destination is known for: surf, kitesurf and windsurf.
The campaign will be rolled out across several markets in the Americas, Europe and the Caribbean, mainly on digital platforms and in specialized media. The idea is to give greater visibility to a part of the country that remains less visible internationally than Punta Cana, La Romana or Santo Domingo.
A destination well known among water sports enthusiasts
Cabarete is not new to the world of board and wind sports. Its name has long been known among practitioners, attracted by regular winds, waves, the proximity of several spots with different characteristics and an ecosystem developed around the activity.
To the west, Playa Encuentro is one of the country’s most sought-after spots. Several schools operate there, with areas suited to different levels, although conditions vary depending on the season and time of day.
Kite Beach concentrates much of the activity linked to kitesurfing. Colorful kites quickly fill the sky as soon as the wind rises, while schools and rental centers line the beach.
Cabarete Bay also welcomes windsurf and kitesurf practitioners. The winds blow for much of the year, with particularly favorable conditions between June and August. Along this relatively short stretch of coastline, it’s possible to get from one spot to another in just a few minutes.
A town organized around the sea
In Cabarete, weather conditions directly influence the rhythm of the day. People check the wind, waves and forecast before deciding when to go out on the water. Boards, sails and equipment are part of the landscape, just like the small hotels, beach bars and restaurants set along the bay.
This presence of watersports has also shaped the atmosphere of the place. Schools, equipment rental operators and competitions attract practitioners from around the world, but also travelers who simply come to watch, learn or spend a few days by the sea.

The north coast offers a different atmosphere, more focused on watersports. Cabarete can therefore find its place in a stay along the north coast, combined with Puerto Plata, with its beaches, urban heritage and large hotels, or Sosúa, known for its bay and diving activities.
The “Cabarete Surf & Wind City” campaign is not trying to create a new image of the destination. It gives greater visibility to what already defines daily life there: a small town where wind and waves set the pace. For the Dominican Republic, Cabarete also offers a way to show another side of the country, sportier, younger and more active.
