Iberia strengthens its presence in Latin America with new flight frequencies
Iberia, the Spanish airline, continues to strengthen its position in Latin America, a key region for its development. Under the leadership of Marina Colunga, Commercial Director for Latin America, Iberia has announced several major initiatives aimed at increasing its flight frequencies to the region’s main markets.
Expansion in Peru: A Historic Record in Sight
One of the most significant announcements concerns Peru. Although this market is not traditionally seen as an aviation hub, Iberia plans to break a record in 2024 by consolidating 13 weekly frequencies. This significant increase reflects the growing importance of Peru in the airline’s strategy. Marina Colunga stressed that this development is a response to increased demand and a strategy to strengthen connectivity between Peru and Europe, making Lima a key hub for transatlantic flights.
Growth in Brazil and Chile: markets in full expansion
Brazil remains one of Iberia’s most important markets in Latin America. The airline has intensified its operations, reaching up to 14 weekly frequencies to São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, more than any other country in the region. This expansion is part of a wider strategy of continued growth.
In Chile, Iberia aims to end 2024 with 11 weekly frequencies. The airline is also focusing on improving in-flight comfort and punctuality, which is essential for routes as long as those between Santiago and Madrid.

Diversification in Latin America: a global commitment
In addition to Peru, Brazil and Chile, Iberia has also strengthened its operations in Ecuador, with flights to two cities, as well as in several other Central and South American countries, including Argentina, Uruguay, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic. As for the Mexican, Colombian and Argentinean markets, which are among the most successful for the airline, it will continue to invest in modernising its fleet and improving its services to maintain this growth dynamic.
In 2024, Iberia expects to carry around 5.3 million passengers in Latin America, an increase of 16.4% on the previous year. The Spanish airline’s ambitions in Latin America are clear: to consolidate its position as the region’s air transport leader, while strengthening its global connectivity.
